The Royal Wedding

The secret is out and the world’s most anticipated dress provoked gasps of delight when Catherine Middleton finally showcased the look she picked for the 21st century’s first royal bride. Designed exclusively for Kate – or the Duchess of Cambridge as she is now known, the gown with its beautiful Chantilly lace bodice over ivory and white silk gazar with long sleeves cost many thousands of pounds and is destined to become a style icon and a treasured heirloom, with similarities being drawn between this iconic gown and the wedding gown worn by Grace Kelly. Rumours are that it may be auctioned for charity, but images of it will be around forever.

There can only be one Princess/ Duchess Catherine but modern brides wishing to emulate her wedding day style need look no further than the exquisite collection at Madeline Isaac James, a collection of romantic, beautiful gowns designed to fit and flatter. Natalie Gladman, the designer of this renowned collection, commented today on Kate’s style and choice of dress:

“Kate looked absolutely stunning in her gown, which complemented her perfectly and was entirely fitting for the occasion.  Her dress is a timeless classic and will undoubtedly be a benchmark for future brides.  As a bridal designer, I understand that the most important element in choosing a bridal gown is that the bride feels utterly spoiled, special and beautiful. Your wedding dress should reflect your personality and individual style while also highlighting your best points. My collections are designed with modern brides in mind, combining a love of vintage styling with contemporary fabrics and finishes such as Swarovski crystal, lace and many different silks including silk satin. We all wish Kate and William very many happy years ahead and look forward to dressing more brides who want to feel like a princess for the day!”

Madeline Isaac-James’ 2012 Collection has been completed after months of sample production based on Natalie’s designs from earlier in the year.  Natalie was spot on  with her prediction for the royal wedding gown (if you recall, she predicted in November 2010 that Kate would wear a dress that had a lace bodice, sleeves, V-neckline, full skirt and train, box pleats, and would wear a veil and a royal tiara!), and her 2012 Collection looks to be spot on in terms of styling that will exemplify Kate’s understated, elegant and demure look. The Katharina dress from the soon-to-be launched 2012 collection at Madeline Isaac James sums up the beauty of the day (shown here in the Farnborough boutique shop window on the Royal Wedding Day). Made in silk satin and finished with silk organza, the dress embodies romance and love, and, like Kate’s, it is designed to complement the bride’s femininity on her special day, and will undoubtedly be a timeless class for brides wishing to emulate Kate’s style.  Watch out for more gowns from the 2012 Collection which are fit for a queen - including the ‘Monaco’ gown (inspired by Grace Kelly’s wedding gown after Natalie’s visit to the Grace Kelly exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum last summer) which bears a spooky resemblence to Kate’s wedding gown!

Everyone at Madeline Isaac-James is thrilled to hear the exciting news about HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton’s engagement, and sends their love and congratulations! It’s such exciting news, both for them and for the country as a whole and it’s especially lovely to see how much love and support they clearly have for each other.

Speculation abounds about ‘the dress’ and what kind of style Kate is likely to follow. Clearly, it will be her own style and she will further define herself and her impeccable taste with her choice of gown. As an independent, self-assured young woman, Kate has her own innate sense of style and carries herself with a fabulous understated elegance. She is able to combine traditional elements (as is required of a Royal wardrobe), with youthful, on-trend exuberance – a great combination! Her chosen designer will be British through and through and whose creations will reflect that certain, unique British style.

So what are the key trends for 2011? Well, 2011 wedding gown trends allow for a greater choice of styles and silhouettes, with brides finally able to show real personality in their choice of gown. From 1950′s inspired classic ball-gowns to 1920′s and 1930′s inspired wedding gThe Charlotte Gown from Madeline Isaac-James 2011 Starlet Collection.owns there really is a great choice of on-trend styles for the Royal bride-to-be. Each style carries its own unique signature, and my view is that Kate will look to combine both traditional elements with an up-to-date, fresh and inspirational style gown.

With her stunning figure Kate would look fabulous in a slimmer silhouette that shows off her superb figure whilst maintaining a dignified and appropriate look.  A gown in a style such as Charlotte from our 2011 Starlet Collection is perfect – combining an on-trend, British vintage inspired look, with tradition and a timeless elegance.

The Charlotte gown (right) is a simple but stunning silk dupion gown reminiscent of the Edwardian era which can be dressed up or down as best suits the bride. As there are no additional embellishments on this gown, Kate will be able to wear fabulous jewellery without a conflict in style and look. With this gown she could opt for a very traditional Royal tiara, combined perhaps with an heirloom antique cathedral length veil. Elegant, understated, but so effective.

Alternatively, if Kate opts for the on-trend 1950′s styling, we think a gorgeous silk taffeta gown such as ‘Carole’ from our 2011 Candlelit Collection (left) would fit the bill beautifully.  Combining traditional elements with a modern twist, the Carole gown has a beautiful beaded lace bodice, V-neckline (without being too low) and pretty sleeves – perfect for a wedding at Westminster Abbey in London (if that is the final chosen venue for the wedding!).  This gown, with its full skirt (featuring fabulous, classic box pleats) and a full train, would work beautifully with again, a cathedral length heirloom veil and perhaps an amazing Royal tiaras from the Royal collection.

Whatever gown Kate chooses, we know she will look simply stunning on her wedding day, and everyone at Madeline Isaac-James wishes the happy couple much love, luck and happiness. xx
